GOP Hopefuls Can Agree on Something

A Hillary Clinton presidency is the only thing that makes fractious Republicans “forget their differences and join hands in common purpose,” ex-Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson writes in the Washington Post. It’s not her policies but the specter of a partisan past that means the senator is “the closest there is to an incumbent” in 2008—and thus the object of GOP hatred.

Politico’s John F. Harris and Jim VandeHei contend Barack Obama hasn’t given the 1990s enough play, saying the First Lady made “colossal misjudgments” that could give an underdog traction. Obama owes voters a “coherent critique” of the 42nd presidency. Salon’s Walter Shapiro adds that Bill Clinton “is out of practice,” held up defending the past, and unable to keep foot from mouth.
