Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 left the competition standing out in a downpour at this weekend's box office, reeling in $35 million—more than three times the $11.2 million total for No. 2 thriller Prisoners, reports the LA Times. Ron Howard's Rush opened in third with $10.3 million, adds the AP, while Baggage Claim took No. 4 with $9.3 million, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Don Jon was fifth with $9 million. The latter two films, however, were made for less than $10 million, notes the Times, though Don Jon's results were disappointing given its critical acclaim.
