Surgery Set for Argentina President's Head Injury

Argentina President Cristina Fernandez landed back in the hospital today, just after she was put on a month of bed rest for a subdural hematoma, and doctors have scheduled surgery for tomorrow to drain it, reports the BBC. Fernandez apparently suffered a blow to the head in August, but the hematoma and cause of her frequent headaches wasn't diagnosed until Saturday. Her vice president, Amado Boudou, appeared publicly with other Cabinet members, vowing to carry on "while she gets the rest she deserves." He continued: "Be strong Cristina! We're all going forward together!"

What's not clear, as per the AP: Whether Fernandez will formally cede her powers while she recovers. Boudou is deeply unpopular and is currently facing a corruption investigation. Fernandez's most recent health scare comes just three years after her husband, former Argentine president Nestor Kirchner, died of a heart attack. Fernandez herself had a cancer scare in late 2011.
