The New York Mets made a deal this afternoon for Johan Santana, the left-handed, two-time Cy Young winner from the Minnesota Twins, USA Today reports. The Mets are giving Minnesota four players for the star pitcher: outfielder Carlos Gomez and pitchers Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra, and Kevin Mulvey. But the price seems to be worth it, as Santana will give the Mets the best rotation in the NL East.

Santana took home Cy Youngs in 2004 and 2006 with the Twins, and he struck out at least 235 batters every season for the past four years. While the Mets lose much young talent in the deal, they managed to hold on to top outfielder Fernando Martinez. Because Santana has a no-trade clause, the trade can still be voided. The Mets must negotiate a contract extension with him in what USA Today says is a two- to- three-day window. (More New York Mets stories.)
