A few years back, Bobby Metzinger's "social media expertise" landed him a job in the field; now, it's landed him in court. Metzinger, a 30-year-old former social media manager for a marketing company, is reportedly a St. Louis Cardinals fan. As the World Series kicked off, Metzinger allegedly posted a series of disturbing tweets referencing the Boston Marathon bombing, Deadspin reports. Among them, as retweeted by @BestFansStLouis (Metzinger's account has been deleted):
- "The #WorldSeries will be another finish line not crossed by #Boston."
- "Putting my loft up for a ridiculous 'Boston-only' rate for the #WorldSeries. Pressure cooker sold separately."
A later tweet referenced a song about gun violence: "Listening to the Offspring's 'Bad Habit' and the lyrics just ring true of what will go down very soon," he posted. The tweets got him arrested, KMOV reports. Police say he threatened the vicinity of St. Louis' Busch Stadium, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch notes. He has been charged with making a terrorist threat (a misdemeanor) and released on an $11,000 bond; he is under house arrest ahead of a hearing next month. A source tells Deadspin that Metzinger also recently lost his job; the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says his former bosses were the ones who reported his tweets to police. And Deadspin has this kicker: Metzinger was in 2010 profiled by KMOV, which featured his attempt to land a job using Twitter. He recommended that tweets be kept "professional and positive."
