Duke Lacrosse Accuser Guilty in Boyfriend's Slaying

The woman whose rape accusation against three Duke lacrosse players was ultimately dismissed has now been found guilty of second-degree murder. Crystal Mangum stabbed her boyfriend in the chest during a fight in 2011, the News & Observer reports, and he died 10 days later. She said the stabbing was in self-defense, the AP reports: He had jealously beaten and choked her and dragged her by the hair when she "poked him in the side," she said.

Before his death, boyfriend Reginald Daye said he had dragged Mangum by the hair but was trying to get away when she stabbed him. A supporter questioned the case, per WRAL: "I feel like the verdict wasn't based on the evidence presented. It's based on what is perceived to be her past indiscretions." But the district attorney argued that the case "was not about 'the Crystal Mangum.' It was about Reginald Daye." Mangum now faces up to 18 years in prison. (More Crystal Mangum stories.)
