The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is no everyday sequel. The Jennifer Lawrence sci-fi pic defied expectations with a massive $161.1 million opening, thumping Thor: The Dark World ($14.1 million) and earning the best November debut ever, Variety reports. Meanwhile, The Best Man Holiday ($12.5 million) fell on its second weekend as Vince Vaughn's laugher Delivery Man ($8.2 million) bowed weakly and Free Birds ($5.3 million) stayed afloat after four weeks. On a smaller scale, the release of Nebraska ($540,000) widened to 28 theaters and Captain Phillips ($1.8 million) still appealed to adult audiences. (More Hunger Games stories.)
