Rand Paul: Women Are Winning War on Women

War on women? Pshaw, says Rand Paul, telling CNN today that "I sort of laughingly say, 'Yeah, there might have been—but the women are winning it." Citing female majorities in medical, dental, and law schools, he added, "I think women are doing very well, and I'm proud of how far we've come. And I think some of the victimology and all of this other stuff is trumped up. We don't get to any good policy by playing some sort of charade that somehow one party doesn't care about women or one party is not in favor of women advancing." (Paul was responding to a question about Mike Huckabee's poetic waxing on libido and Uncle Sugar.) Paul took it a step further in comments to NBC, saying that Democrats "concocted" a war on women while largely giving Bill Clinton a free pass in the Monica Lewinski scandal. "There is no excuse for that, and that is predatory behavior. And it should be something we shouldn't want to associate with, people who would take advantage of a young girl in his office." • Dick Durbin on Paul's Clinton comments: "The issues that were raised by my colleague Sen. Paul have been litigated in the public square for over a decade. And if the Republicans like my friend—and he is my friend — Senator Paul want to dwell on these chapters in the past, I don't think it's going to have much resonance."
• Pete King on Americans' safety at the Sochi Olympics: "I cannot give them a 100% guarantee. The fact is these are going to be very much threatened Olympics. Everything is being done by the United States. But the fact is this is a dangerous region in Russia ... and, quite frankly, the Russians have not been cooperating with us or with other countries anywhere near the extent that the Greeks or Chinese or Brits did."
• Ted Cruz on Tuesday's State of the Union address: "If President Obama wants to give an honest, candid State of the Union address this week, he'll address the fact that his economic policies are not working and that they're exacerbating income inequality."
• Chuck Schumer on Cruz's comment: "Well, a lot of it’s sort of Alice in Wonderland. He says the president's policies haven't worked, but he hasn't let them go in to effect. He's blocked just about every one."
