A Michigan man was trying to show his girlfriend how safe his guns were last Sunday, and ended up killing himself in the process. The 36-year-old man's girlfriend told police that after a day of drinking, he was demonstrating how to use his handguns. To drive home how safe they were when not loaded, he put each of his three guns to his head and pulled the trigger—safely, the first two times. But the third gun apparently was loaded, and the Independence Township man was killed by a bullet to the head. The unnamed man's death has been ruled a suicide, reports the Oakland Press.
Late last month saw another gun-safety-themed accident with less tragic results: A Florida man who had just left a firearms safety class pulled over to look at his new handgun in Boynton Beach. He removed the magazine, but apparently did not remove the bullet from the chamber; Eric Morkert managed to shoot himself in the leg while he was manipulating the slide, reports WPBF. His injury was treated at a local hospital. (In other firearms news, a blind Florida man who shot his friend dead in 2012 has been given his guns back.)
