Tsarnaev Friend's Murder Confession Revealed?

A Florida prosecutor and the Department of Justice each issued reports yesterday clearing agents of wrongdoing in the killing of Tamerlan Tsarnaev's pal Ibragim Todashev, and revealing new details about the incident. One such detail: At one point, Todashev wrote out a confession. The Florida report contains a comically redacted photo of that confession—it just shows a legal pad with a big black box over it. But Boston Magazine believes it has acquired an unredacted, if extremely low-res, version. Here's what can be made out of the blurry scrawl:

  • My name is IBRAGIM TODASHEV. I wanna tell the story about the robbery me and Tam did in Waltham in September of 2011. That was [?] by Tamerlan. [?] he [?] to me to rob the drug dealers. We went to their house we got in there and Tam had a gun he pointed it [?] the guy that opened the door for us [?] we went upstairs into the house [?] 3 guys in there [?] we put them on the ground and then we [?] taped their hands up

Yeah, not entirely illuminating. The reports do thoroughly detail Todashev's last night alive, the Boston Globe reports. According to investigators, Todashev refused to meet them at a police station, instead taking them to his apartment, where he chain smoked and talked with them. "I didn't kill nobody and I need your help," he said, in a moment captured on video tape. Finally he admitted he was involved, and police read him his Miranda rights. But they didn't arrest him—they say a DA had urged them to wait. Instead, they asked him to write out the confession. When he was almost done, one state trooper stepped outside to call a prosecutor. That's when Todashev, after a trip to the bathroom, allegedly flipped a table, bolted for the kitchen, grabbed a metal broom, and was shot down. It's an official account that Todashev's father and the ACLU still have questions about. (More Ibragim Todashev stories.)
