(AP Photo/Ted S. Warren) Perhaps it's no surprise that Seattle residents like a little extra caffeine—after all, they've been drinking Starbucks for a long time. Their interest in an extra shot of espresso is just one of the interesting findings in a company analysis of cities' favorite drinks, shared with Quartz. Overall, Americans tend to like the same stuff: Regular coffee is clearly the most popular drink. But various cities have preferences that stand out from the rest; they're more popular in one city than any other. San Francisco loves its soy lattes; Portland is more into the eggnog latte; the tea latte prevails in Denver. Philadelphia prefers the company's blonde roast, whereas New York likes the medium roast and Minneapolis the dark. Head to San Antonio or Los Angeles, and Frappuccinos are a hit. No surprise that southern states generally prefer cold drinks, while northern ones often prefer hot—but why does Boston love iced coffee so much? And why are Georgia and Alabama such fans of hot coffee? For the full map, visit Quartz. (More Starbucks stories.) Report an error
