Kate Mulgrew wants to set the record straight: Despite her narration of an upcoming documentary arguing that the sun revolves around the Earth, that's not what the Star Trek actress actually believes. "I am not a geocentrist, nor am I in any way a proponent of geocentrism," she writes on Facebook. "More importantly, I do not subscribe to anything [filmmaker] Robert Sungenis has written regarding science and history and, had I known of his involvement, would most certainly have avoided this documentary. I was a voice for hire, and a misinformed one, at that."
Mulgrew notes in her statement that physicist Lawrence Krauss, who also appears in the trailer, was also "misrepresented in the film." Krauss wrote his own rebuttal in Slate, and says he has no idea how the film procured clips of him to use. "The notion that anyone in the 21st century could take seriously the notion that the sun orbits the Earth, or that the Earth is the center of the universe, is almost unbelievable," he writes. And that's why he won't sue the filmmakers, because he doesn't want to "elevate the profile of something that shouldn’t even rise to the level of popular discussion." His suggestion? Let's all ignore this "nonsense and stupidity" from here on out.
