Man's 30-Day Sentence in Girl's Rape Is Bogus: Court

Montana's Supreme Court today dumped the jaw-dropping decision of a lower court to sentence a high school teacher to 30 days in the rape of a 14-year-old student. The high court cited Judge Todd Baugh—who suggested that the victim, who later committed suicide, was partly to blame because she was "older than her chronological age" and "was as much in control of the situation" as 54-year-old Stacey Rambold—in its decision and ruled that Rambold must be re-sentenced by a separate judge. Rambold has been free since completing his 30-day stint last fall. Baugh has taken no small amount of flak in the ruling, and is no stranger to eyebrow-raising sentences.
