Crime | shooting spree Victim's Dad Slams 'Craven' Pols, NRA for Gun 'Insanity' Richard Martinez 'lost and broken' after son killed in Calif. shooting spree By Polly Davis Doig Posted May 25, 2014 11:19 AM CDT Copied Richard Martinez, who says son Christopher Martinez was killed in Friday's mass shooting in Isla Vista, Calif., breaks down as he speaks Saturday, May 24, 2014. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong) Richard Martinez lost his son in Elliot Rodger's shooting spree, and yesterday publicly lashed out at those he holds responsible for Chris Martinez's murder: "Why did Chris die? Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA. They talk about gun rights. What about Chris' right to live?" Martinez says his family is "lost and broken," and that Chris Martinez was "a really great kid." NBC reports that the NRA has thus far kept its silence on the shooting, and has not responded to requests for comment. Rodger obtained his guns legally. Continued Martinez, as per the Hill: "You don't think it will happen to your child until it does. When will this insanity stop? When will enough people say, stop this madness, we don't have to live like this? Too many have died. We should say to ourselves—not one more."
