The trail of cash has made its way beyond San Francisco. The anonymous millionaire who last week began stashing envelopes of dough around the City by the Bay showered San Jose with cash for a single day, with five drops in the city yesterday, the Mercury News reports. While revealing little about himself, he told the paper, "It was actually my friend who came up with the term 'social experiment,'" detailed on his @HiddenCash Twitter account. "My idea was just to give something back ... I'm not playing with people, trying to manipulate them, or trying to get some kind of outcome to an experiment, other than to put a smile on people's faces."

San Jose's first clue: "Across from where these sea creatures play, a dog pees in the fall." Alex Doxie decoded that as being a fire hydrant across the street from the San Jose Sharks' arena, and emerged $135 richer. Vanessa Lizotte's $275 jackpot, found near an Olive Garden's Dumpster, will help her "keep my job" by keeping her car gassed up. He is "truly is making a difference in people's lives," she says of the millionaire—who has already moved on. Cash drops started in Los Angeles around midnight last night, according to his Twitter account, which has quickly racked up some 237,000 followers. Hopefully everyone will keep playing nice: The cash-fairy told KCBS that the drops will cease if any violence occurs. (More San Jose stories.)
