"David Goldblatt" may not exactly sound like a Westerosi name, but a character bearing that moniker will nonetheless be making an appearance in an upcoming novel in George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. That's because Goldblatt shelled out $20,000 for the privilege of appearing—and, this being Game of Thrones, promptly dying—in the books, as part of a crowdfunding campaign to support the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and the Food Depot of Santa Fe, ABC News reports.
Goldblatt is a 30-year-old product specialist for Facebook, and lives in San Francisco. "I’m just lucky enough to be in a position to do this," he says. "Obviously, the money is going to charity, so it’s an added bonus. I didn’t immediately seek to help wolf sanctuaries, but the more I read about the charities, I learned it was a worthwhile cause." The "Martyr" reward tier was limited to two people, and while both have been claimed, the other generous victim remains anonymous. (More David Goldblatt stories.)
