An 8-month-old baby had been missing for hours when a jogger—who happened to be visiting Houston from Vietnam—found her in the bushes, car seat and all. "I thought the baby was abandoned," Hong Nguyen tells NBC News. She called police, who'd already issued an Amber Alert for the child. They were quickly on the scene; one father on the force swaddled the baby in his uniform to calm her down, he tells KHOU. Officers took baby Genesis Haley to the hospital "as a precaution." Now Genesis is back with her mother.

It all started when the mother went to get gas. She left the baby in the car while she headed in to pay, and it took just seconds, police say, for someone to steal the vehicle, with Genesis inside. Officers quickly found the abandoned car, but the baby wasn't in it. Fortunately, Nguyen distinctly heard "human sounds, not animal sounds" coming from the brush. Finding the infant, she says, was just doing "my duty as a human being." (More Houston stories.)
