Lana Del Rey got Frances Bean Cobain's attention when she told the Guardian earlier this month, "I wish I was dead already." She was talking, at the time, about her heroes, including Amy Winehouse and Kurt Cobain, and admitted that she sees dying young as glamorous. Frances Bean Cobain responded on Twitter, the New York Daily News reports, though the original tweets have apparently been taken down: "The death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticize … I’ll never know my father because he died young & it becomes a desirable feat because ppl like u think it’s ‘cool.'"
Del Rey responded, "I liked (Kurt) because he was talented not because he died young," and claimed reporter Tim Jonza goaded her into the quote. Her tweets have also been deleted, but Jonze links to a screenshot from the Guardian; Del Rey, among other things, called him "sinister" and his questions "calculated." Jonze's response: "It's not pleasant asking a pop star if she thinks the idea of dying young herself is attractive—it's a dark question, but it's not a leading one. She has every opportunity to say no. And she can hardly complain about the subject matter: She'd been talking about her icons all dying young, she named her debut album Born to Die, and had spent much of the 50 minutes previous to this point telling me how miserable she was."
