ABC has done some serious housecleaning on The View: Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy are both out, and sources say not exactly voluntarily, leaving just Whoopi Goldberg as a host at this point. Sources tell the New York Daily News talks between Shepherd and ABC broke down, and the network also decided not to renew McCarthy's contract, which ends next month. The show is currently on a week-long holiday hiatus, and it's not clear whether either co-host will return to say farewell post-July 4. Also not yet known: who will join Whoopi as the new co-hosts.

Some reports had executive producer Bill Geddie also getting the boot, but the Daily News' sources say he's negotiating a new contract and will likely return. Barbara Walters, who retired as a co-host, remains an executive producer and wouldn't comment on the firings. Both Shepherd and McCarthy confirmed they were leaving online, with Shepherd calling her time there "seven wonderful years" and McCarthy tweeting, "If Sherri goes... I go too. #sisters." What's behind the "massacre," as TMZ calls it? According to the gossip site, the chemistry of the group has been off since McCarthy came onboard. (More The View stories.)
