What happened to Faraj al-Shibli is uncertain. A local militia in the town of Marj detained him this weekend, a source tells CNN; his body was discovered in the same town yesterday. Following the Benghazi attack, al-Shibli was detained by Libyan officials more than a year ago, officials say; the Washington Post calls him "by far the most notorious suspect" in the case. He was believed to have links to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which was reportedly involved in the attack. He was also interviewed by the FBI while detained, a Libyan insider has told CNN.
