The 19-year-old captain of the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires, NHL draftee Mickey Renaud, died suddenly this morning. Renaud was breakfasting with teammates at his family home when he began convulsing, then passed out. The Ontario native was dead by the time he reached the hospital. Sources lcose to the Renaud’s family said an autopsy is planned, reports the Globe and Mail.

Renaud was the fifth-round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2007 and had been developing into a promising pro prospect. “The thing that struck me was his leadership, especially with a young team. He got the job done,” said a Flames’ scout. “He was such a great guy, so full of life and energy,” a former teammate lamented. (More hockey stories.)
