A mother has been arrested after she allegedly handed her daughter a backpack full of heroin, which the girl took to daycare yesterday. The Delaware girl, age four, thought the white powder was candy and gave out bags to her classmates, daycare staff told police. And there were plenty of bags to hand out, NBC 10 reports: The backpack contained 249 of them, totaling 3.735 grams, police say. But "none of the packets were opened by any of the kids," an officer tells the News Journal.

Still, some of the kids were hospitalized to ensure their safety; they've since been released. The mishap apparently came down to a pet-related accident: The dog damaged the girl's usual backpack, prompting Ashley Tull to hand her daughter the one containing drugs, police say. Tull has been charged with maintaining a drug property as well as endangering her three kids. Those kids are now staying with a relative, and Tull has been banned from communicating with them. She wasn't, however, charged with drug possession, and police haven't said who owned the heroin, the News Journal notes. (More heroin stories.)
