Body Found in Search for UVa Student

It appears the search for missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham has reached a sad ending. Authorities have found a body in southern Albemarle County, reports the Daily Progress of Charlottesville. Police have not been able to identify the remains yet, but they have notified the family of 18-year-old Graham, the student who went missing five weeks ago. The body was found on an abandoned property along a road close to a county-run park. A search had been scheduled to take place in the park tomorrow. A suspect spotted on surveillance video with Graham in Charlottesville shortly before she disappeared, 32-year-old Jesse Matthew, remains in custody.

"These are human remains, and forensic tests need to be conducted to determine the identification of those remains," says local police chief Timothy Longo. "But nonetheless we wanted to be quick and timely to share that information with the Graham family." Matthew is also linked to the murder of a young woman in 2009, Morgan Harrington, and police recently seized a cab he owns that he was driving around that time, reports CNN. The remains found today are only about 5 miles away from where the body of Harrington, a Virginia Tech student, was found in 2009. (More Hannah Graham stories.)
