Three teenage girls trick-or-treating in Halloween costumes were killed by a hit-and-run driver at a Southern California intersection last night. The girls were in a crosswalk near an elementary school in Santa Ana when an SUV with two men inside hit them about 6:45pm, police and fire officials said. The girls ranged in age from 13 to 15, and the Los Angeles Times reports that two of the victims were 13-year-old twins.

The SUV was found abandoned nearby, but the suspects had not yet been found. All three girls were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities in Washington state, meanwhile, said two 7-year-old girls and a 20-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries when they were hit by a car while trick-or-treating in Vancouver. The car reportedly jumped a curb. (More hit-and-run stories.)
