He knocked over a glass of wine at dinner and was coolly asked by his date not to smoke. It would appear to be any typical bad first date, except the "he" was a young George W. Bush and his unimpressed date was Tricia Nixon, daughter of the then-president. George W. talks about this date and other personal family stories in 41—A Portrait of My Father, his new book being released this week. "During dinner, I reached for some butter, knocked over a glass, and watched in horror as the stain of red wine crept across the table," he writes, as per Reuters. "Then I fired up a cigarette, prompting a polite suggestion from Tricia that I not smoke."

But how did the evening turn out after that? "The date came to an end when she asked me to take her back to the White House immediately after dinner," he recalls. The book is filled with other family stories, including how worried the Bushes were when the elder George decided to go parachuting for his 90th birthday and when he got pneumonia in 2012, as well as why the younger George thinks his dad should've explained his broken "no new taxes" promise to the American people better.
