Adrian Peterson Out for Season With No Pay

Just two days ago, Adrian Peterson complained about his paid leave from the Minnesota Vikings, but now he's got other worries: He's been suspended from the NFL without pay for the rest of the season, NFL.com reports. The running back—who pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault of his 4-year-old son earlier this month—was suspended for violating the league's personal conduct code and can't be considered for reinstatement until April 2015, ESPN notes.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a letter to Peterson, as per NFL.com, that any reinstatement would depend on how he responded to counseling and a treatment program and that Peterson "must commit [himself] to ... counseling and rehabilitative effort, properly care for [his] children, and have no further violations of law or league policy." NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport notes that the suspension could cost Peterson $4.2 million over the next six games. Peterson has three days to appeal the decision, which he's apparently doing "right away," according to a league source who talked to ESPN's Adam Schefter. (Peterson reportedly texted about another son's "whooping" as well.)
