News of Kirk Douglas' death has been more than a little premature: People magazine appears to have accidentally posted the actor's obituary, reports the BBC, in the latest casualty of the pre-written obit. The post with the headline "DO NOT PUB Kirk Douglas Dies" was dated Sept. 29, though the BBC notes it's unclear if it had really gone unnoticed for two months. Praising the soon-to-be 98-year-old as "one of the few genuine box-office names to emerge" as television took hold, it noted he "died TK TK TK. He was 97 (DOB 12/9/1916) and had been in good health despite having suffered a debilitating 1996 stroke that rendered his speech difficult." Twitter predictably took the gaffe and ran, with one user tweeting "Rest in Peace future dead Kirk Douglas who isn't dead yet. But way to be FIRST, @PEOPLEmag!" (More Kirk Douglas stories.)
