140 adults have come forward with abuse complaints at children's institution

British officials who discovered the remains of a youngster in a children's home fear there could be at least six other bodies beneath the concrete floors, reports the Guardian. Complaints of abuse launched an investigation of the home, which has been closed for years, and other government institutions on the island of Jersey. "It's difficult to envisage more horrific crimes than some of those that are alleged to have been carried out here," said one investigator.

Police are questioning some 40 suspects concerning allegations of abuse from 140 people dating from the 1960s, and are sifting through missing persons reports going back half a century. An earlier inquiry into allegations of abuse at a school led to the children's home, where some of the same suspects had connections. Jersey is a tax haven and home to many rich and powerful people.
