Mississippi police haven't made any arrests in the horrific killing of 19-year-old Jessica Chambers, but they are looking for a "person of interest," reports the Clarion-Ledger. Earlier reports suggested that Chambers had been able to identify her assailant to first responders before she died. The teen had been set on fire and was found near her car Saturday night along the side of a road. Police hope that a cellphone found at the scene will help authorities piece together her final hours. They're also looking at surveillance video from a nearby gas station, in which it appears that somebody she knows calls to her and she moves off camera before returning into view alone.
Store manager Ali Fadhel tells the AP that Chambers was a regular customer and that nothing seemed amiss Saturday night. Firefighters responding to a report of a burning car found her about 90 minutes after she left the gas station. "From what we were told, the only part of her body that wasn't burned was the bottom of her feet," says her sister, Amanda Prince. Her family says Chambers had a large gash on her forehead, suggesting that an assailant might have tried to knock her out. (More Jessica Chambers stories.)
