Snowmobilers Save Moose in Avalanche

Three snowmobilers near Anchorage, Alaska, came across a fresh landslide and tentatively approached to make sure no skiers had been trapped. Sure enough, they spotted something sticking out of the snow—something that turned out to be the snout of a buried moose, reports Alaska Dispatch News. The animal could breathe, but there was no way it could free itself, so the men grabbed their shovels and started digging. "It didn’t even fight us," recalls Marty Mobley. "It was like, 'Help me. Help me.' It was totally docile and let us touch it." After about 10 minutes, they got the animal mostly dug out, poked its butt with a shovel, and watched it run off uninjured.

"I am an animal lover, and I couldn’t leave it there," says Mobley. "That kind of karma is something we don’t pass up." The ADN has a photo of the buried moose. (More moose stories.)
