Pete Rowe and two friends had just finished running up the steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art—called the "Rocky Steps" because they were made famous during the Rocky training montage when Sylvester Stallone's character runs up them—when they heard a familiar voice this weekend. "You guys got up here pretty fast. You're making me look bad," he said. They turned—and yes, it was Stallone himself. He took a selfie with the college students, and his publicist hints to the Philadelphia Inquirer that if you're lucky, the same thing just might happen to you one day.
"When he visits the steps ... he prefers not to make an event of it—just be with the fans in a genuine and happily surprising way," she says, noting that the Saturday run-in "was very fun both for Mr. Stallone and the surprised visitors." Stallone was in town filming the seventh Rocky film, Creed, in which Rocky Balboa trains the grandson of his rival-turned-friend Apollo Creed. The Rocky Steps, the Inquirer notes, have made an appearance in every Rocky movie. (More Rocky stories.)
