'Wicked Storm' Slams New England

Its winds howling at more than 70 mph, the Blizzard of 2015 slammed Boston and surrounding parts of New England today with none of the mercy it unexpectedly showed New York City, piling up more than 2 feet of snow. The storm punched out a 40-to-50-foot section of a seawall in Marshfield, Mass., badly damaging a vacant home. In Newport, Rhode Island, it toppled a 110-foot replica of a Revolutionary War sailing vessel in dry dock, breaking its mast and puncturing its hull.The blizzard's force and relentlessness stunned even winter-hardened New Englanders. "It's a wicked storm," Jeff Russell said as he fought a mounting snowdrift threatening to cover a window at his home in Scarborough, Maine. CNN gives a state-by-state breakdown:

• Massachusetts: Twenty to 30 inches of snow is expected in most areas as drifts reach three to five feet. Gusts will hit 45mph inland and 70mph along the cape. More than 30,000 are without power. A few county travel bans have been lifted, and the rest will remain until tomorrow.
• Connecticut: The eastern part of the state got the worst snow, but all travel bans are lifted and "by and large we'll be back to normal for most of our state tomorrow," says Gov. Dannel Malloy. A blizzard warning remains in effect in some areas.
• Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Maine: Heavy snow is expected and all three are under blizzard warnings.
• New York: Officials are trying to get flights going at airports, and all travel bans have been lifted.
• Rhode Island: "We're expecting a lot more heavy snow and a lot more heavy wind," says Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza. State travel bans are expected to be lifted this evening.
• New Jersey: More snow flurries are expected, but travel bans are lifted and Port Authority tunnels and bridges are running.
