New York Times media columnist David Carr died of an aggressive form of lung cancer, according to an autopsy performed because of the sudden nature of his death Thursday. Heart disease was a contributing factor, reports the Times. It's unclear if Carr's illness—metastatic small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung—was known; a Times spokeswoman declined to comment, reports the AP. He had previously survived a bout with Hodgkin's lymphoma, an experience he chronicled in his 2008 memoir, The Night of the Gun. The New York Post notes that that book has soared to No. 7 on Amazon in the wake of Carr's death, and publisher Simon and Schuster has ordered another 10,000 copies be printed. A wake is set for tomorrow evening, and his funeral will be Tuesday morning. (More David Carr stories.)
