For seven hours, Natalie Allman was tortured and beaten with a dumbbell before her ex-fiancee slashed her throat in front of their twin boys. Now the British woman, who survived the attack and needed reconstructive surgery, must write three letters a year to Jason Hughes, the man who wanted to "make her look ugly" for breaking off their engagement. A judge has ordered Allman, 29, to update Hughes, 42, who's serving a nine-year sentence for malicious wounding, on the health and development of the couple's 5-year-old boys every Easter, September, and December under parental rights laws, the Telegraph reports. Allman must also send photos and keep letters Hughes sends her sons. If she refuses, she could be found in contempt of court and thrown in jail.
"We are the victims, not him," says Allman. Yet "I could end up being split up from my children and sent to prison when he was the one who attacked me. I'm the one being treated like a criminal." After Hughes, a former soldier, found out Allman was seeing someone else (reports differ on whether this happened in 2011 or 2012), Allman tells the Sunday People she "woke up in the middle of the night and he was kneeling over me, beating me repeatedly in the face." He attempted to smother her with a pillow before making an 8-inch cut across her throat that just missed a major artery. Paramedics found her two sons in bed with their mother, covered in blood, hours later after Allman was finally allowed to call for help. A lawyer for Hughes, who was arrested at the scene, said Hughes intended "to make her look ugly to other men" and "to cause a hideous scar she could not hide if she had dressed up to look pretty."
