A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in the short-lived kidnapping of a 22-month-old toddler, an incident that was caught on surveillance video in the small Washington farming town of Sprague. The teenager, who lives in the town, was identified through the use of surveillance video, interviews, and evidence collection, Lincoln County Sheriff Wade Magers says. The identity of the boy, who was positively identified by one of the kidnap victim's young siblings, is being withheld because he's a juvenile, Magers says. "Over the past 72 hours, deputies and detectives have worked relentlessly on this case," the sheriff says.
The 15-year-old has been booked into a juvenile detention facility on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping, the sheriff says. The case drew wide attention when dramatic surveillance video footage showed a male running down a sidewalk with toddler Owen Wright in his arms Sunday. The child's two siblings, 8-year-old sister Delicia and 10-year-old Brenden, screamed and chased him. The scene ended after two teenage boys joined the chase, and the kidnapper put down the toddler and fled. The toddler was not hurt. (More kidnapping stories.)
