Airport Confiscates Alyssa Milano's Breast Milk

Upon landing at Heathrow Airport yesterday, Alyssa Milano had the 10 ounces of breast milk she'd pumped on the plane taken away. She tweeted that officials told her they could only "let the pumped milk through if I had the baby with me," adding, "Why would I need to pump if I had the baby with me????" Much Twitter conversation with followers—and the airport—ensued, with Milano telling Heathrow at one point, "I would have happily spread milk in different containers [to comply with] liquid rules. Instead, milk was taken away with no discussion."

The airport tweeted that, "Unfortunately, without a baby present, the government requires all liquids in carry-ons to follow the 100ml rule," and posted links to two official sites with the rule explained. In a statement provided to ABC News, Milano notes that she doesn't blame the employees "following orders to keep us all safe," but that she's glad to have "started a dialogue" and hopes her experience will spark a "thoughtful reconsideration" of the policy. "Every ounce of milk I'm able to produce for my child is nothing short of a miracle," she adds, "and to watch that milk be thrown away without any regard for my baby was heartbreaking."
