Tracy Morgan, clearly emotional but speaking clearly, made his first public appearance since last year's crash this morning on Today, soon after settling with Walmart over the accident that left him badly injured. "I can't believe I'm here," he told Matt Lauer. "The case is settled, but the pain is always going to be there for Jimmy Mack," his fellow comedian and friend James McNair, who was killed, Morgan said. He doesn't remember the June 7 accident, Morgan said, and after he came out of a coma and learned of McNair's death, he looked at pictures and video of the scene and watched McNair's funeral online because "I had to know what happened to my friend."
As for Morgan, "I have my good days and my bad days, where I forget things ... there are times where I got the headaches and the nosebleeds," he said. But he vowed he'll one day return to comedy. "I love comedy. I'll never stop loving her. I love comedy and I can't wait to get back to her, but right now my goal is just to heal and get better because I'm not 100% yet, I'm not," he said. "And when I'm there, you'll know it. I'll get back to making you laugh. I promise you." Interview here. (More Tracy Morgan stories.)
