A 31-year-old New York man has admitted he had sex with an 11-year-old girl and fathered her child. Newsday reports Jeffry Rosales pleaded guilty to first-degree rape yesterday, and a judge is expected to sentence Rosales to 17 years in prison as part of a plea agreement. Newsday describes "overwhelming" evidence regarding the child's paternity: a DNA test, as well as calls made from jail to the girl, now 13, and her family in which Rosales identified himself as the baby's father.
On Tuesday, prosecutors dropped a separate murder charge against Rosales. He was charged in June 2013 with the shotgun killing of another Long Island man. The charge was dropped after federal authorities arrested someone else who took responsibility for the crime. A defense attorney says his client is satisfied with the plea deal, "relieved" the murder charge has been dropped, and is "glad to see the truth come out." (More child rape stories.)
