Florida State University quarterback De'Andre Johnson says he didn't start it—but video from a Tallahassee bar shows him punching a woman squarely in the face, the Tallahassee Democrat reports. Per court papers, Johnson pushed by the woman in line at Yianni's bar on June 24, and when she called him out on it, they struggled until Johnson punched her. She allegedly walked away with cuts, bruises, and swelling and still had a black eye when meeting prosecutors last week. "She's a good witness and she wants to testify," says State Attorney Willie Meggs, who filed misdemeanor assault charges against Johnson. "She's a little nervous about it."

Johnson turned himself in, got out on $500 bond, and obtained high-profile criminal defense attorney Jose Baez (who secured Casey Anthony's murder-trial acquittal in Orlando, among other things). Johnson "was not the initial aggressor," Baez tells TMZ, but is extremely apologetic and is "participating in community service, and faith-based programs focused on battered women, substance abuse, and the empowerment of children." Police turned heads by including the victim's name but redacting Johnson's in its report. A police spokesman says that's because Johnson is under investigation, while the victim wasn't involved in domestic-relationship conflicts, child abuse, or sexual assault. FSU has suspended Johnson for violating "athletic department policy." (More assault stories.)
