Envelopes sent to lawmakers not related to Times Square bombing

A hundred members of Congress got envelopes yesterday stuffed with a political rant, a photo of a man in front of the Times Square military recruiting station, and the bold taunt, “We did it.” But, bizarrely, they weren't  connected to the blast that damaged the landmark yesterday morning, reports the New York Post. Authorities called it an "incredibly unbelievable coincidence."

Police interviewed a Los Angeles man tied to the letters and said there was no connection to the Times Square case. "We did it" referred to the Democrats winning control of Congress, and the manifesto was about what Dems should do to win 2008. Investigators, meanwhile, continued to probe whether the blast was related to similar ones at the Mexican and British consulates last year and in 2005. (More Times Square stories.)
