"The alarmed undertaker heard her screams." That's a line from a news story out of Germany, not a horror-film script. The events that led to that statement occurred in March, when a very ill 92-year-old woman was discovered to have no pulse by a nurse who worked in the care facility where the elderly woman lived, reports the Local. A doctor was called, and he declared her dead; relatives said their goodbyes and then the woman was sent to the morgue—where she woke up in a cooling chamber (the AP describes it as a refrigerated room).
An on-site undertaker apparently heard her cries. She was transported to a hospital, and died two days later due to heart disease. Prosecutors don't attribute her death to her time in the cooling chamber, but prosecutors are involved: The unnamed 53-year-old doctor was yesterday charged with negligent bodily harm and could face prison time if convicted.
