Almost exactly one year after Celine Dion took a career hiatus to care for her cancer-stricken husband, the singer is returning to Las Vegas to do a run of shows, back at Caesars Palace, starting Thursday. "I didn't want to be here at first, I don't need it. Don't get me wrong, I love singing for people, but I have priorities," Dion, 47, tells USA Today. But hubby René Angélil, 73, wanted her to get back to doing what she loves after a year spent taking care of—and grieving for—him. (In another interview this month, she told Taste of Life, "I am his favorite singer and he wants to see me back on the stage singing again!") As for his prognosis, "We have asked (doctors) many times, how long does he have, three weeks, three months?" she says. "But they say they don't know."

For now, he's home in Las Vegas, where he's fed intravenously; he's previously had a number of procedures for throat cancer in Boston. Dion, who also has a new song out this month, has had many conversations with Angélil about what he wants the end of his life, including his funeral, to look like. "I'll say, 'You're scared? I understand. Talk to me about it.' And René says to me, 'I want to die in your arms.' OK, fine, I'll be there, you'll die in my arms." But he may not be able to make it to the debut of Dion's new show, and she anticipates a "fragile" night. "There will be moments. Of emptiness, laughter, awkwardness, tearing up," she says. "But that's the point of coming back." (Dion previously shared her secrets to a happy marriage.)
