Oh, the stress of dating apps: What opening line to use on the person who "swiped right," in order to make sure they don't change their mind about you? Dating app Hinge is here to help you out. It wrote more than 100 opening lines, and 22% of its users took part in an experiment in which they used randomly-selected lines on their matches so Hinge could see which ones got the most responses, Vox reports. One thing to note right off the bat? "Hey, what's up?" resulted in a 0% improvement in response rate ... so don't use that. Some better ideas:

  • For 18- to 23-year-olds: One of the top openers was, "You're having your portrait painted—what's your backdrop?"
  • For 24- to 28-year-olds: One of the top openers was, "Sunday priorities: exercise, sleep, or aggressive mimosas?"

  • For 29- to 34-year-olds: One of the top openers was, "Two truths and a lie; ready, set, go!"
  • For people aged 35 or over: One of the top openers was, "Katy Perry or Taylor Swift?"
  • For men: An assertive opener ("Drinks soon?") works best, with males 98% more likely to respond to this type of message.
  • For women: Mention food ("Chocolate, red velvet, or funfetti?"), with females 40% more likely to respond to this type of message.
