Holy made-up holiday, Batman! Today is the second-annual Batman Day, which DC Comics started last year to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Caped Crusader, IGN reports. To celebrate, DC is lowering prices on its digital Batman comics, retailers are giving away a free issue, and cupcake chain Sprinkles is even selling Batman-themed treats.

But like our hero himself, every Batman Day has to have its Joker. Kotaku calls today a "fake holiday invented for the sole purpose of helping market merchandise branded with the Dark Knight." The site even says Sept. 26 is the wrong day to celebrate, claiming Bruce Wayne became Batman the day his parents were killed—revealed to be June 26 in 1984's Batman Special #1—not the day he first put on the costume. Regardless of that seriously nerdy debate, we can probably all agree to spend the rest of the day watching this GIF. (More Batman stories.)
