Coming to Keurig: Coke Pods
Keurig will start selling the Keurig Kold machine, which makes single servings of cold beverages including Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper and flavored seltzer waters.   (Keurig Green Mountain via AP)

For those weary of the cheap convenience of grabbing a soda from a vending machine, convenience store, the pantry, or any of the actual bazillions of places one might encounter a bottle or can of carbonated delight at the ready, well, Keurig has heard your howls of despair and presents you with a much more expensive option that also costs you time and carries a dopey name. Behold the Keurig Kold, which the AP reports allows soda DIYers to make their own "single servings of cold beverages including Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, and flavored seltzer waters," as well as eventually cocktail mixers. Per the company website, iced teas and sports drinks are also in the mix.

The downside? The Coke K-cups won't work in your existing Keurig (about 17% of American households have one), so you have to pony up for the $369.99 Kold, which is for sale as of today. Plus a little more than a buck per delicious 8-ounce beverage. One expert is skeptical, saying, "the consumer can already go into a fridge and crack open a can of Diet Coke." It doesn't sound far-fetched to Coca-Cola, which the AP notes has about a 17% stake in Keurig. Keurig CEO Brian Kelley says it's about not cluttering your pad with all those pesky soda bottles and cans, and emphasizes the "craft" nature of some of the offerings. "It's a premium—it's about choice and convenience," says he. (Not sold on DIY soda? Try Keurig's soup K-cups.)
