(AP Photo/Tom Mihalek) Three different Maple Leafs scored in their sorely-needed 3-2 victory over the Flyers; Toronto trails Philadelphia by five points for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. With just 10 games remaining that gap will be tough to close, especially if captain Mats Sundin’s first-period groin strain turns into anything serious, reports the Globe and Mail. Elsewhere in the NHL: Alexander Ovechkin had two goals for the Washington Capitals in their 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames, including the game winner with 1:54 remaining. The goals move Ovechkin’s NHL-leading total to 56. The Florida Panthers bested the New York Islanders 4-2 and won their season-best fifth straight game. They are now five points away from the final playoff spot. (More hockey stories.) Report an error
