Gunfire rang out at a Tennessee bus stop where South Chattanooga schoolkids were waiting Tuesday. The terrifying scene unfolded as a vehicle approached the bus stop around 8:20am, police tell the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Some children were apparently alerted to the danger seconds before five to 20 shots rang out. No one was injured as the students dove behind houses and hid in porches, police say, though several houses were hit by bullets.

The school bus arrived shortly after the shooting and the children "jumped on that bus like it was the safest place to be," says a witness. Police, meanwhile, said they were searching for an Infiniti, which they apparently found at an apartment complex. WTVC reports officers took two people into custody and were searching for a third suspect. The Times reports just one person was detained. Five people have now been shot in five incidents in the area over the last five days. "It ain't over," says a resident. (More Tennessee stories.)
