Police say the horrific deaths of a couple and their three young children who drowned when their SUV went into a lake was no accident. Instead, they're calling it a murder-suicide, reports KPHO. The husband, 27-year-old Glenn Baxter, deliberately drove the vehicle into Tempe Town Lake in Arizona after midnight Sunday, authorities say. Surveillance video shows him walking the route to the water the vehicle would take moments before it did so, reports the Arizona Republic. "He's looking for the path of least resistance," says a police spokesman.
Baxter had been estranged from his wife, 25-year-old Danica Baxter, and the two were in a custody dispute over kids Reighn, 3, Nazyiah, 2, and Zariyah, 1. A family friend says Baxter "had anger issues," and his wife had been texting his mother on Saturday just before midnight to say he was upset; the last text was sent about 15 minutes before the SUV went into the lake. Police found her phone beneath a nearby bench, and they think Glenn Baxter left it there deliberately. Authorities say he made a sharp turn into the lake, hitting an embankment that caused the vehicle to flip upside down as it landed in the water. (More murder suicide stories.)
