An appeal has spared the life of a Sri Lankan maid sentenced to death by stoning for adultery in Saudi Arabia. A court announced the unidentified woman's sentence would be reduced to a three-year prison term on Wednesday, about four months after she was convicted of adultery with a fellow Sri Lankan migrant worker, who was given 100 lashes, per the New Republic and Reuters. Sri Lanka's government says it's "happy" with the news, though New Republic journalists report that the woman "is far from safe." "There's a good chance she'll be raped by prison guards, like so many imprisoned workers before her," they write. (More Sri Lanka stories.)
