The University of North Texas is mourning a 20-year-old student killed in what police are describing as a road-rage incident on New Year's Eve. Police in Denton say Sara Mutschlechner was driving three friends home from a party at around 2am Friday when an SUV carrying five or six men pulled up alongside her and words were exchanged, the North Texas Daily reports. Police say shots were fired from the SUV and Mutschlechner crashed the car into a utility pole after being shot in the head, reports the New York Daily News. She died Friday evening after around 12 hours on life support.

Family and friends describe Mutschlechner—the designated driver for her friends—as friendly, fun-loving, and selfless, ABC reports. She "was a beautiful person inside and out and this world is less bright without her," her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, said in a Facebook post. No arrests have been made been made in the case, though police say at least two of the men in the SUV had been at a separate New Year's Eve party and they hope more witnesses will come forward, reports ABC. (A Michigan man who shot another driver during a road-rage incident won't be eligible for parole until he turns 96.)
